Advanced Manufacturing Park (AMP)The Advanced Manufacturing Park (AMP) is a 100 acre (40 hectare) world-class manufacturing technology park providing advanced manufacturing technology solutions to ensure repetitive advantage for industry. Technologies on the AMP centre on materials and structures, covering metallic and composite materials; typically used in precision industries including; aerospace, automotive, medical devices, sport, environmental and energy, oil and gas, defence and construction. Technology developed on the AMP is already being utilised in leading edge projects, such as within Formula One and the next generation of military and commercial aircraft, including the new Boeing 787 Dreamliner. The site is well connected – approximately three miles from junction 33 of the M1 motorway and within easy reach of both Rotherham and Sheffield rail stations. | Current businesses on the Park include: | | Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC) a collaboration between Boeing and the University of Sheffield, to create world-class aerospace engineering facility and tangible demonstration of academia, government and industry researching together to develop cutting-edge innovation and advanced technology solutions for materials forming. | | | TWI, the world’s leading independent research and technology organisation providing industry with solutions in the areas of materials joining, processing, surface treatments and product performance. TWI's new £2.5m research and development base on the AMP houses some of the most advanced joining equipment in the world, including the globe’s biggest friction stir welding machine, produced in Halifax, a 7kW fibre laser and a Direct Metal Deposition unit. | | | Castings Technology International (Cti), one of the world’s leading providers of R&D, technical support and consultancy services to the cast metals industry. The new headquarters and research centre houses Cti’s unique design and rapid prototyping capability, as well as titanium melting and casting and machining facilities. | | | The Advanced Manufacturing Park Technology Centre provides a flexible and cost effective opportunity to access the benefits of innovation and collaboration available on the Park. Opened in Summer 2006, it offers a low investment entry level to the AMP, on a short, medium or long term basis for the purpose of a start-up, involvement in a project with one or more of the other technology partners, or as a potential stepping-stone to a purpose built facility on the park. | |
